District Council
35 is an organization of approximately 3500 members in Massachusetts,
Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and Rhode Island. We are affiliated
with the International
Union of Painters and Allied Trades, AFL-CIO/CLC. Our mission
is to represent our members for purposes of collective bargaining,
to organize workers in a variety of industries and occupations,
and to advocate the interests of workers and their families.
Our members
include:
- Construction
industry painters, wallcoverers, glaziers, drywall finishers,
and abatement workers
- Residential
painters, drywall finishers, and wallcoverers
- Glassworkers
- Sign painters
and sign erectors
- Institutional
maintenance trades workers
- Public
employees
DC 35 is among
the most aggressive and spirited labor organizations in North
America. As proof of our commitment to organizing, diversity,
and our obligation to recruit and train skilled manpower for our
employers, our membership has grown approximately 20% annually
in the past few years. We are proud of our work, and invite individuals
and groups with similar interests to join us.
Go Union!
District Council
35 is committed to an ambitious program to organize unrepresented
workers in our industries and occupations. The organizers on our
staff are available to workers, contractors, community and religious
groups, and others to discuss extending union wages and benefits
to those who want and need them. Women and minorities are welcome
as we seek to strengthen our union. Our approach is flexible,
and we aim to accommodate those interested in coming aboard. Please
contact our Organizing Department
for additional information.

Sign With
DC 35
Becoming a
Union Employer through Pre-hire Agreements. In a little over 2
years DC 35 has entered into pre-hire agreements with over 100
companies. These agreements run the gamut from very small residential
painting contractors to large painting and glazing companies,
from abatement companies to glass shops, from drywall companies
to general contractors. In every case the chance to obtain the
best skilled, most efficient workforce available anywhere and
the best benefit programs in the industry were major considerations
for the employers involved.

| Skills
training, safety training, and the prospect of working on prevailing
wage, project labor agreement, and responsible employer ordinance
related jobs were also important factors for employers. Women owned
and minority owned businesses are central to our goal of including
everyone in our industries! Employers who want more information
can contact the Organizing
Department, without obligation, to learn more. |
